Boat Packing Guide
There’s nothing worse than having to cut a boating trip short when you realize that you’re missing something important. Luckily, a little pre-planning and preparation can help you avoid this unfortunate scenario. If you’re not sure where to start, check out this guide to packing your boat from Chatlee Boat & Marine.
1. Dry Bag
A dry bag provides waterproof storage for items that you really don’t want to get wet, like extra clothing, electronics, your wallet, and your keys. There are even dry bags that float for easier retrieval! If you don’t have a dry bag handy, a zippered plastic bag will work too, though it won’t necessarily be as durable or reliable.
2. Cooler
A cooler can be used to store drinks and snacks while keeping them cold. The best part of a cooler is that you can stock it with whatever you want! Just make sure that you fill the cooler with enough ice.
3. Sunscreen
Boating tends to mean a lot of sun exposure. Protect yourself from the sun’s rays by using sunscreen of the appropriate SPF level. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen to vulnerable areas like your ears and the back of your neck. If you plan to get in the water, be sure to use waterproof sunscreen and remember to reapply once you’re out of the water.
4. Extra Clothing
Make sure that every passenger on your boat has a change of clothing ready. This is especially important if you are boating in cold weather, as changing out of wet clothes will help reduce the impact of hypothermia. Even if you’re boating in warm weather, changing into dry clothes will help you and your passengers stay comfortable.
5. Towels
Not only can towels be used to help you and your passengers dry off, but they can also protect your seats. Don’t forget to pack enough towels for everyone!
6. Entertainment
Keeping a few entertainment items around can be useful, particularly if you plan to boat with kids. This can mean anything from books to movies to music, but make sure that you can protect your delicate items from water damage.
